In the marketplace forwarders are logistics solutions providers and business partners. In the eyes of airlines, through the lenses of the IATA Cargo Agency Program, forwarders are qualified and registered either as Agent or Intermediary or CASS Associate. IATA´s resolutions, regulations and rules for each of these groups are not the same and consequently different requirements apply for a forwarder to register and keep the registration in the Cargo Agency Program and participate in CASS (Cargo Accounts Settlement System). Whilst operational requirements are somehow similar for cargo agents and intermediaries but not for CASS Associates, financial requirements do vary by registration types, regions and countries. Thus, a forwarder would need to learn and understand the requirements to decide for the right registration. Deficient communication in the registration process can happen quite frequently and lastly turn down the application, consume time and money.
